I am Anastasia Baliakou, and I am a Certified Master Yoga Teacher from Yoga Alliance International of India.

In this Video we will do a transition from Bakasana B (Crow pose) to Mukta Hasta Sirsasana A (Headstand with free hands A).

Sanskrit :Bakasana

English: Crane Pose (or sometimes Crow Pose)

Pronunciation: bah-KAHS-uh-nuh Meaning:

Baka means crane.

Asana means pose or posture.

Bakasana means Crane Pose.

The pose is said to resemble a crane wading through water.



Benefits of Bakasana:

  • Strengthens arms so they can hold your body weight.

  • Strengthens core to help hold you up.

  • Strengthens glutes and adductors. Strengthens shoulder stabilisers.

  • Prepares you for most other arm balances.

  • It helps make your wrists stronger.

  • Stretches your upper back and groin.

  • Your spine is toned and strengthened.

  • The pose can improve your sense of balance and focus.

  • Helps to build confidence, courage and combat fear.


Contraindications:

  • If any injury to the hips, knees, wrists, or shoulders, then it is best to avoid the practice of Bakasana or Crane Pose. Modifying this pose with props or support is the best option.

  • A sudden gush of blood towards the head while bending down to get balance, can cause further heaviness in the head and hence best to be avoided by someone suffering from migraine.

  • To be avoided when suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Not to be done by women who are pregnant or women during their menstrual cycle. Best to take advice from experts here.

  • Blood Pressure patients, would find it hard to bring balance or focus and hence best to avoid.

  • Avoid if suffering from spondylitis.

English: Headstand

Mukta : free; liberated

Hasta: hands

Sirsa means head.

Asana means pose, seat, or posture.

Full name translates as Free Hands Headstand Pose.

Commonly known as Headstand.


Benefits of Mukta Hasta Sirsasana A:

  • Strengthens the arms, legs, and spine

  • Strengthens the lungs

  • Tones the abdominal organs

  • Improves digestion Improves circulation

  • Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause

  • Therapeutic for asthma, infertility, insomnia, and sinusitis

  • Enhance your overall mood

  • Sharpening your concentration and your senses

  • Overcome fear (and you’ll become braver than before)

  • Enhance connection to your inner self.


Contraindications:

  • High blood pressure, heart disease, thrombosis, arteriosclerosis

  • Severe neck problems, like spondylitis

  • During headache or migraine,

  • Chronic constipation

  • Kidney failure

  • During pregnancy and menstruation.

  • Also due to increased pressure, it is not advised if you are severely nearsighted, if you have weak blood vessels in the eye, conjunctivitis, chronic glaucoma, inflammation of the ears or any form of hemorrhage in the head.
